Midges are small but mighty. I found this pattern on Tightline Video's YouTube Channel. I have put my own twist to their pattern adding and swapping out a few materials that I prefer. You may be asking yourself why would a big fish eat such a small meal? The answer is surprisingly simple. Trout will always eat whatever insect is hatching in the greatest numbers. While they slightly deviate from this habit during glamour hatches to eat larger bugs like Hendrickson, Caddis, Iso, etc. they will never stop eating midges because they make up one of the densest populations of nymphs in the water. This fly will never look out of place 24/7/365. Bigger fish are smarter and may be wary of the larger fly patterns but you may be able to fool them with this small pattern.
